ただ、こう書いていた Janrain ですら OpenID からフェードアウトしそうな雰囲気ではある。
Our solution engineers have a long list of best practices based on working with customers of all shapes and sizes and across multiple industries. Very simply, use of social login (when done right) creates higher conversion rates for new users, and increases likelihood of return user login. I'll miss OpenID on Basecamp, but I'll hold out hope that the future brings social login to 37signals.

As we continue to work on the code that will eventually become stackoverflow, we belatedly realized that we'd be contributing to the glut of username and passwords on the web. I have fifty online logins, and I can't remember any of them! Adding that fifty-first set of stackoverflow.com credentials is unlikely to help matters.

The original selling point for using OpenID with 37signals applications is gone as well. OpenID used to be the only way to get single sign-on across all our applications and to get the Open Bar application-switcher across the top. Today we have 37signals ID that provides the same functionality with none of the headaches.

We launched Mozilla Labs’ online identity experiment, BrowserID, only 24 hours ago, and the feedback has been incredibly useful already. At Mozilla, we believe in empowering individuals to shape their online experience. Our work on a decentralized identity solution for the Web matches that mission well. Also, because we believe that transparent community-based processes promote participation, accountability, and trust, we will be posting technical explanations, points of debate, and roadmaps on this blog.

The OAuth 2.0 authorization protocol enables a third-party application to obtain limited access to an HTTP service, either on behalf of a resource owner by orchestrating an approval interaction between the resource owner and the HTTP service, or by allowing the third-party application to obtain access on its own behalf.

Mark Karlstrand will be giving a free webinar tomorrow, Wednesday Jan. 19 at 10:00am PT or 1:00pm ET, on how to build a complete extranet security strategy. Part of the discussion will be on how to connect to the cloud securely. Below is a brief description of why this is important to companies that want to offer this service to their users.

There has been lots of speculation regrading whether OpenID is actually useful and I've often asked myself what can OpenID actually do for a company. If you're interested in what OpenID can do for SSO/trust/webapps, then have a read. If you have no idea what OpenID is and want a quick overview, head over to the Crowd 1.1 Release Notes.
